Let's Celebrate Another Year Out of the Closet!

Hello my people!

2023 has not been an easy year for our community!

The advance of many anti-LGBTQ laws  in several countries has put us on alert, but at the same time we are more united than ever. It has also been a year full of emotions, progress and achievements, and I want to dedicate this space to thank each one of you for being a fundamental part of this incredible journey. In this blog, we'll look back at some of the highlights, celebrate the diversity and inclusion we've built together, and share some exciting news.

The progress of the rainbow – despite some clouds

In Latin America and Europe, we have witnessed significant progress in promoting diversity and inclusion, despite the challenges we face with the enactment of anti-LGBT laws (and some recent setbacks in Madrid and Uganda). To focus on the positive (as always), companies continue to join the path of creating safe spaces, Pope Francis has allowed bless the unions of same-sex couples, and has opened the door of conversation to trans people. Two countries have added same-sex marriage in 2023: Estonia and Nepal. Mauritius has banned the criminalization of LGBTQ+ people (a milestone for Africa). And even the "Real Academia Española" (the Institution that regulates Spanish language) has incorporated the terms “Non-Binary”, “Gender Dysphoria”, “Machirulo” (type of cis-man who doesnt care of being a male chauvinist) and “Gender Self-Determination”. Every step count, so let's celebrate together the achievements made and motivate ourselves to continue building a more inclusive world!

The Come Out family! 🚪🌈 continues to grow

This year has been particularly special with the launch of my book "The University Out of the Closet" in March with Alejandro Lanuque. Seeing how it resonated with so many of you has been incredibly gratifying, in addition to the opportunity to present it at the Buenos Aires Book Fair.

And how can I not mention, the excitement of being able to publish "Come Out!"in English! Little by little the message of inclusion is reaching more people.

Breaking down closets without borders

Finally, I want to express my deep gratitude to the companies that trusted me this year to carry out DEI talks and workshops, not only virtual but also in person. Their commitment to creating inclusive environments is admirable, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work together.

I also want to thank the organizations that invited me to participate in different Prides and Conferences in various parts of the world, such as Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Spain. Thank you to the Miami Dade Gay Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, Pride Connection and Out and Equal for the support along this path. Their dedication to promoting diversity and equality is inspiring, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their events.

For a 2024 of equity and empathy 💫

Finally, I want to take this moment to thank you for your incredible support throughout the year. This year has been incredible thanks to each one of you. The community we have built is a source of inspiration and motivation. Thank you for being part of this journey and for making this space a place full of love and respect!

I look forward to continuing to work together in the coming year to build a more inclusive and diverse world.May 2024 bring us even more achievements, lots of love and exciting moments!

With much love,

Diego Tomasino
